What's your favorite movie?


One of my favorite movies is The Prestige by Christopher Nolan. I consider this film his masterpiece. It is an adaptation from Christopher's Priest novel of the same name. And it was released on October, 2006.

This film follows a rivalry between two ex-stage partners and illusionists,Rober Angier, a rich man (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden, a humble magician (Christian Bale). The death of Angier's wife during a presentation is the reason why. Since, they have been doing whatever is necessary to prove who is the best.




One night, Borden snuck below the stage to see how Angier pulls a better version of Alfred's act, The disappearing Man. But, something went wrong and Angier ends up in a tank of water and Borden is set to hang for the crime.








The movie continues with the memories of  Borden, who is in jail, reading the diary of Angier. And with a parallel story of a rich man trying to buy the secrets of Borden and the custody of his daughter to Fallon, the assistant and representand of Alfred.In the middle of the movie, you discover that Angier isn't dead and that he is the rich man who is trying to buy Borden's secrets and the custody of his daughter.And this is the first big moment of the movie. How is possible that someone who drown in a tank of water is now alive. Well, apparently a machine that he bought from Nikola Tesla (David Bowie) was able to clone him. But nobody knows if this is true, because he could have used a double, to perfom The Disappearing Man trick,  like he was doing in another tricks. Nolan, the director of the movie, never revealed what was behind this. 





But this is not everything. Just after you think  that you just understood what was the plot of the movie. Nolan, gives us the second big moment. Borden and Fallon were twins and they were both acting like Borden and Fallon, one day each. That's how nobody could understand how was Borden doing his trick. 





The film ends up with Alfred's twin hung after he sold a fake secret to Angier for all his money. And with Alfred, who was free all the time acting like Fallon, under a stage shooting Angier with a gun after he revealed him all the truth behing the trick. At the last part of the movie, the first scene is repeated but this time we can observe Alfred coming home to see his daughter, after he performed the best trick of all.
